The Ignorant Teacher

There can be no
more care in this soul
food daydream
for you are the comet
you are the tail.
You don’t know the true color of dawning
you just don’t know
and you cannot find your ego
but you stuffed it in a closet
and forgot it
so busy being right
handed left fisted
floating above the riff
raff lighting a path of quiet
vanity
you don’t see it
you can’t
you are floating away
too far away
to know me
too close to see
too busy being of spirit
strangled in golden chain.

I am eternally born
I am eternally dead
you are of the big
know it all
lost in right
handed down bleak stone arrogance
so sure so sure
so quietly sure.

I am under law
and I am over
wrought in experience gained
forever in a loop
forever born
forever dying
you have your reward

I heard that somewhere.

  1. Good flow. It carried me along; the word texture is fine too. There’s no question that sometimes students make fine teachers insofar as they’re not dominated by knowledge. Learning is that much easier in a spirit of unknowing. A know-it-all doesn’t learn easily; he tends to defend what he knows, or thinks he knows. He can’t let knowledge go because it has, as it were, become part of his identity – like an arm or leg. Also, perhaps, because it gives him power.

Incidentally, the narrator here might be a student who has some emotional investment in the teacher. The latter perhaps doesn’t take the student seriously, or is condescending.
