The Flame of Inquiry

Osiris, Zeus, Thor –
they anchor lives no more.
A thousand other gods
anchor lives no more.
Physics, cosmology –
I live there too,
and within the flame
of inquiry.
Am I  God? The name,
the picture can hinder you.
Let negation drive you
ever deeper into you.
Let the inquiry so consume you
that black holes, the Milky Way,
stars infinitely far away
become facets of you.
Go deeper, deeper – beyond
you as a daughter or son,
you as a father or mother,
you as a citizen, even
you as a human being –
till only the universe
is asking and seeing.
Through inquiry, discovery,
archaic pictures taking flight,
It is You reborn, remade
seeing Yourself in a different light.
